A Calibration Technique for Bi-axial Shake Tables with Stepper Motor

Shaking tables are frequently used to determine the dynamic behavior of structures in laboratory environment. In order obtain realistic results experimental studies, table response and performance should be consistent with desired motion. this multidisciplinary study, an application a new method for determining calibrating mechanical developed bi-axial displacement controlled shake according motion data is presented. The table's electro-mechanical components consist stepper motors, ball screw sets, linear bearings, potentiometers positioned on both axes measurements. For control acquisition (DAQ) unit table, open-source electronic prototyping platform Arduino was used. From several results, it seen that, presented calibration method, harmonic earthquake simulations could achieved relative root mean square error (relative RMS error) less than 5% displacement-time histories.
